Whiston Juniors Football Club, known affectionately as “The Field of Dreams,” is a Community Interest Company based in Whiston, Merseyside. Founded in 1985 through the amalgamation of a church team and Whiston Saint Nick’s by three dedicated managers, the club has grown into one of the area’s most established grassroots football organisations.
Today, the club boasts 17 teams and over 250 registered players. As an FA Charter Standard Development Club, Whiston Juniors FC has a proud history of developing talent with notable former players including Steven Gerrard, Joey Barton, David Nugent, and Phil Bolland, among many others who went on to turn professional.
Club Chairman Chris Hunt has been involved with the club for 27 years, three years as a player starting at just thirteen years old, and 24 years managing teams and serving as chairman. His wife, Becky Hunt, serves as Club Treasurer and Assistant Secretary, together forming the backbone of the club’s administration.
Whiston Juniors FC, a Community Interest Company based in Merseyside with over 250 players across 17 teams, had reached a tipping point. The administrative demands of running one of the area’s most established grassroots football clubs were consuming the personal lives of the volunteers who keep it going.
Club Chairman Chris Hunt, who has dedicated 27 years to Whiston Juniors, described a familiar story for grassroots clubs across the country. “We were staying up all hours trying to chase subs,” he said. “250 kids, in which case we were doing spreadsheets and chasing managers and then parents to sign and collect them in. It was just taking over our life basically.”
The club had been relying on Excel spreadsheets to manage payments from hundreds of families, a process that required painstaking manual cross-referencing against bank statements simply to establish who had and hadn’t paid. For Club Treasurer and Assistant Secretary Becky Hunt, the role had become a nightly burden. “We had Excel spreadsheets — consuming to cross-reference with all of our players against the payments that were coming into the bank,” she explained. “We were spending quite a lot of time doing that.”
The challenge extended well beyond payment collection. Each week brought a fresh wave of administration: processing new signing-on forms, transferring player details, and uploading information to their local FA portal — all handled manually by a small group of dedicated volunteers. It was a workload that threatened to overshadow the very reason they had got involved in the first place.
As Becky put it: “Sometimes it’s easy to forget why you’ve got involved in grassroots football, when you get bogged down with the admin.”
TeamFeePay replaced the club’s patchwork of spreadsheets and manual processes with a single platform covering automated subscription collection, smart payment reminders sent directly to parents, digital signing-on forms, and a user-friendly mobile app that gave administrators instant access to player and payment information. The platform also introduced the club to a new fundraising tool — the Supporters Draw — offering an additional revenue stream to support the club’s ongoing needs.
The transition proved remarkably smooth. “It took us about a month to get involved at the start, and then it became easy from there on in,” Chris explained. With responsive support and a 24-hour ticket resolution time, the club felt confident throughout the process.
The impact on Whiston Juniors FC has been immediate and far-reaching. For Chris, the difference is deeply personal. Chris added, “I get my life back — it collects the subs, sends reminders, prompts. The app’s easy to download and everyone seems to be following.”
Becky, who had spent countless evenings reconciling spreadsheets, found the platform transformed her role entirely. “I found it really user friendly. I think the app is really good,” she said. “You’ve got all the information at your fingertips, so you’re not having to sit down for hours at night, you can just access that information straight away.”
The Supporters Draw has also opened up a promising new fundraising channel. Though still in its early stages, participation is growing steadily, and the club sees it as a valuable long-term source of income. “All fundraising is of a benefit to us, but having this gives us a little bit more funds and it will help with pitches, repairs,” Chris noted.
Above all, TeamFeePay has given Chris, Becky, and their fellow volunteers the freedom to refocus on what drew them to grassroots football in the first place.

Liverpool FA oversees one of the country’s most active grassroots football communities, supporting 470 clubs, 3,400 teams, and over 33,000 players across the county. With a network of that scale, helping clubs operate efficiently, sustainably, and in line with safeguarding requirements is a significant undertaking. TeamFeePay has become a key partner in that mission — giving clubs the tools to manage their finances, administration, and compliance in one place, and freeing up the volunteers who make grassroots football possible.
FC Abbey Meads was formed in 2003 and has grown into a large grassroots club with over 40 teams. For years, collecting and reconciling payments meant a monthly ritual of bank statements, handwritten checklists, and chasing parents for missing subs. TeamFeePay put an end to all of that — and gave the club’s administrators their time back.
