The clearest evidence says yes. After the Lionesses won EURO 2022, around 1,500 new girls’ teams formed the following season, and host cities saw 129,000 more girls playing school football over four years. Men’s tournaments show a consistent pattern too, though the data is less clear-cut.
Germany’s football association recorded its highest-ever membership — over eight million — in the season after EURO 2024, with 352,000 first-time registrations, though the DFB credits a broader kids-football trend as much as the tournament itself.
